Sorghum - Ba Ye Qi
(Sorghum bicolor). We've trialed a number of supposedly early to mature sorghum varieties but this is the only one we have had great success with in our northwest corner of the Pacific Northwest. 7 foot tall plants, bred for grain production, not for forage or sugar content. Grind up for a nutritious, protein-rich gluten free flour or cook as a whole grain or for porridge. Also used for brewing into beer in many countries. This variety comes from the Nei Mongol autonomous region of northern China. We obtained our seeds originally from Adaptive Seeds in Oregon.
