Lima Beans / Butterbeans
Phaseolus lunatus

Limas are believed to have originated in the tropical fertile valleys of Central America as wild cultivars and domesticated by native Mayans and Aztecs and later by Incas as a staple source of protein. They are very nutritious with a good deal of protein, dietary fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, folates and isoflavones. Delicious in the green shell stage and as a dry bean with a buttery texture and sweet flavor. These varieties of limas are short-season and will mature in the Pacific Northwest. They are more susceptible to mold than the common bean so we only recommend the pole types. Packets contain 25 seeds.

Lima - Bandy
Pole type with dark maroon, medium-sized seed, 3-4 seeds per pod. Bandy was the most productive of the early-maturing limas we trailed in 2014.
