This is one of our favorite beans, hands down, for flavor and yields. Jam-packed with rich flavor, a great substitute for the ubiquitous black turtle bean, this bean can make you forget you ever needed meat on your plate. Easy to thresh and cooks up nice and quick. Small black, brown, golden, and sometimes white seeds.

Beefy Resilient Grex is the work of independent (and visionary!) Oregon seed-breeder Carol Deppe (Fertile Valley Seeds). Carol had some spontaneous crossings occur in her field that resulted in a bean that was a derivative of the Black Tepary (drought-resistant) and Gaucho (high yielding), two separate species that we would normally think would not cross. Carol expanded and selected from the progeny over five generations before we took on this seed and began cajoling it to adapt even better to our farther north climate. Carol's seed did not contain white beans, but she indicated that there is some potential that white was a recessive trait already in this selection. OSSI pledged variety.
